NIGHT

        Night is a book that is very sad, and if you're very sensitive then a tear might excape at some point in the book. This book takes place in the times of the Halocaust, 1994. As we know, jews were being killed many different cruel ways. Not only them we're being targeted, others were but they were a great amount of people. Our Lit teacher always makes us think.. what if one of those jews could've found the cure for cancer? Anyway in my book a whole family is being separated. Elie Wiesel, the author was a survivor, and now he's telling his story. He goes through some long miserable years, that seem like an eternity. He sees horrible things, but he fights for his life. He looses some loved ones, but his mind changes a bit. This book is kind of heartbreaking, but it also teaches a very valuable lesson. It came to me like if it was trying to say "Keep your head up no matter what you go through" Face battles in life but never give up. Kind of like Never Say Never, or Believe. 

        In my book even though there were lots of conflicts as you can imagine. There was one person that was kind of like the "Words of the wiser". He gave advice to Elie. Elie's dad was very sick, he didn't want to eat, he just begged for water. A Blockalteste came close and asked him if he was his soon. Elie replied yes, the officer responded : "Listen to me, kid. Don't forget that you are in a concentration camp. In this place, it is every man for himself, and you can not think of others. Not even your father. In this place, there is no such thing as a father, brother, friend. Each of us lives and dies alone." After this he gave Elie advice as he continued, " Let me give you good advice: stop giving your ration of bread and soup to your old father. You cannot help him anymore. And you are hurting yourself. In fact, you should be getting his rations.." I thought this was very heartbreaking, but the man was kind of right. His father was very ill already, of course in my position i would've given my father, mother or sibling anything I could to help them survive. I think the author put this part in the story to help the reader understand how bad the situation was in this semi- chapter of the book. It is a very short book, but with a lot of thought in it.

Divergent

Imagine fighting, being afraid of being discovered for something that isn't even bad. Feeling guilty and praying to God that no one ever finds out your secret. Your secret of being different. Everyone's unique because they're all different. Not in this life. Tris is a young girl in the world of divergent. Divergent is a place where everyone gets separated based on their skills. Tris gets separated just like everyone else, but she goes to a though group and has to keep her secret, otherwise she dies. She finds someone that's just like her, Tobias. They both share a crazy life of divergent. Can they trust each other, or will they have to fight for everything they have? Of course a good book needs to have romance. Will the world of Divergent bring these two together? Find out!

The plot in this story won't be a house, library, not even in space. The plot as you might guess it is in a futuristic place, or society you can say, where people get separated based on their skills. Tris the main character discovers that she's Divergent, therefore she doesn't fit into one specific category of her special skill. If she is discovered, she will be killed. She tries to keep her Divergence a secret, but throughout her training, she reveals to the trainer, her ability to ace the test and that she is Divergent. Soon Tris and Four discover a plot to overthrow the government, killing hundreds in the process, and they must do what they can to stop it. With the power of Divergence, they may just be the only ones able to save their whole world.

Knight

NIGHT

In my lit class we're learning about the Holocaust and everything that led up to it. We started discussing a lot about it and we finally got books. We also got lit groups. My group was fortunate enough to get the book called Knight. My book is about this guy and his whole family getting sent to concentration camps. Right now we're at the part where they line them all up, spit on them, and tell them they're going to get burned like animals that they are. I think this is intense because why would you telling a person that? There's kids there. In my opinion its really messed up but its hard for me not to keep going since I have to wait for my lit group and the book is so short. Its really amazing but horryifing because there's always that part where you wonder what's going to happen to them? I really like this book and im looking forward to keep reading it.

Divergent

        

DIVERGENT

              I was reading the amazing known and award winning story. You might guess it just by hearing the word division. That's right, Divergent is the great book I read. This book has many amazing parts to it, and I honestly finished it in like a week because I would be reading up to 50-60 pages a night. In this breath taking book, society is divided into five social groups: Erudite, who prize intelligence over all else; Amity, who prize cheerfulness over all else; Abnegation, who prize selflessness over all else; Candor, who prize honesty over all else; and Dauntless, who prize bravery over all else. Where you live depends on your personality and your character.  Starting from sixteen years old, you have to choose which faction to stay in for life. But initiation into the factions is tough, and if you don't perform to their standards they might decide they don't want you- and you could end up as the worst disgrace of all- you might end up factionless; the forgottens of society. But, when protagonist Beatrice leads to make the choice at sixteen, she finds she isn't suited to one faction. She's suited to three- she is Divergent. And that is more dangerous than being factionless- or dead.

     The genre of this book is Science- Fiction/ teen fiction. I know its science fiction because it has a lot of technology and everything and it also talks about the future. I know this book is also teen fiction because she goes through all the hard work of being a teen, but except with like 10,000 more problems in her life. This book is very intense, it has many parts where you're just like "what?" because you start noticing life isn't like that but then those other thoughts come in mind such as "what if.. " what if the world was like this? So, it starts becoming very intense specially trough-out the middle of the book when one of the problems resolves an even bigger one continues! This book's genre helps me understand the book and its conflicts, also it makes me want to read another science fiction novel.

Upstander Summary

UP-STANDERS

In my opinion the Holocaust was a terrifying event in the history of life. I hate how all these people got killed for NO REASON at all. I think thats really messed up and some people were just scarred for life. There were many bystanders and up-standers in this event. Although many stood by and watched, there were only some who actually stood up for others. Some of them got famous, some of them didn't. Some made a difference by just doing an act of kindness as little as just saying hello to a jew. However, many stood by as a result of fear. Fear overcame their mind and soul, and even though many of these people wanted to yell and scream to help them, they couldn't because they knew their lives were in danger, and their family were too. I think I would've tried to help, even if I just helped them by hiding them or just giving them food. Also, since the beginning of the whole discrimination I would've made a plan like if it was to protect my own life or family. Maybe buy a house far away in a farm or something so I could hide more there and they wouldn't be found, kind of like how other up-standers did it. I think others had courage to stand up to the Nazis because they just pictured themselves in these positions, some kind of strong motivation that kept them going. Just because many stood by doesn't mean others did as well, and i picture myself as an up-stander as well.

Poetry & Assessment on sweatshops

     

  In my article called "Bangladesh Factory Owners Surrender In 2012 Fire That Killed 112" it talks about these poor people that got stuck in a factory that was on fire because their boss wouldn't let them get out! The argument in this article is obviously the way that these workers were being treated really bad. Not only did more than 112 people die but also these workers can barely live. The argument in this article is that the government is trying to do the right thing and put the managers that are responsible for the tragic death of 112 people in jail. I know this because in the articled it says, "As we reported soon after the deadly blaze in November 2012, three managers who allegedly prevented workers from fleeing the burning factory were arrested, but the owners had remained free." This shows me and makes me understand that these poor workers had to struggle with this without anybody defending them, luckily the government becomes the herp in this situation. I think this isn't right because no one deserves to die unfairly, many of these workers had a family, mothers with their children, where are their relatives going to go now? I hope this case gets into the hands of justice. 

          The argument in this poem is that this person feels so lost in their own thoughts. Her work is the only thing she wonders all day about. When will it be over? Never because she needs it and can't do anything about it. She's all trapped in her work. Just like in the poem it says "I get lost in the frightful tumult, My self is destroyed, I become a machine." This person feels so lost and hurt, she's worked so much that she started feeling like a machine, a robot. She doesn't feel like a human. The poem is different from the article because it expresses more of the person's feelings. How she's slowly dying inside. I wouldn't like to feel like this, just imagine doing the same job everyday, getting payed almost nothing and on top of it being treated horrible. Imagine having to do this for the rest of your life because you're either being threatened or because you just simply have no other choice since your family is so deep into poverty. I understood the poem better than the article because the article is more like the news, what happened, why, and what is the solution. The poem expresses feelings, it makes you wonder and just think for a minute how you would feel if your life was like that. Workers work for need, no one needs to take advantage of that. 

Bystander

Bystander

       Starting in a new school is never easy. Eric is the new kid in seventh grade and he needs new friends. He meets the "cool kid" named Griffin. When you're new in town, and a school its kind of hard making decisions on who to hang out with, you don't really know how the person is. Griffin seems like a nice, confident, and popular kid. Eric figures that if he's popular then, he must be nice. After a coupe of weeks of getting to know Griffin, Eric sees a bad side to him. Griffin always seems to be in the middle of trouble and bad things. In addition, if Griffin doesn't like you, or if you get on his bad side then you can become the target of the whole school. Soon things start puzzling into pieces as Eric starts getting drawn into Griffin's dark world, he starts seeing that Griffin is nothing but a liar, bully, thief and mean kid. Eric wants to get out and do the right thing, but in one flash passing moment he goes from the bystander to the bully's victim. This book made me realize how fast things can change, and how your whole life can change just by trying to do the right thing. Many things can put you down, but you have to fight through them to get what you want, and do the right thing, not only for yourself but for others as well. 



         Fights, bullying, mean mugging, all of these are examples of the conflicts going on in my book Bystander. As you already know, Eric is the bystander until he tries to do the right thing, and soon becomes the victim. The conflict in this book is that Eric is a new kid without knowledge about the kids that surround him. He tries to hang out with the Griffin, the guy that seems cool, nice and popular. But, after a while he figures out that Griffin may not be like he looks like. He sees kids get bullied by Griffin, he tries to do the right thing and stop the problem but he soon goes from the bystander to the victim. Now, Eric is being bullied by Griffin, he's the target of not only Griffin, but the target of the whole school. Will he be able to stop the bully? Or will someone stand up for him like he did for others? Find out in this breath taking book, read it and find out!
